Alcohol Sales Boost Government Revenue in Kathua

Kathua: The sale of alcohol in Kathua district is once again set to boost government revenue. The auction for a liquor shop at Hatli Mod fetched a bid of ₹2.60 crore, while the auction for a liquor shop at Treheda Barnoti fetched a bid of ₹1.80 crore. This revenue is just from the auctions, and the government is also set to benefit from monthly alcohol sales of ₹10 crore in the district.

Kathua district has a total of 31 liquor shops. The excise department has completed the auction process for 29 shops for the new fiscal year. The auction process for liquor shops at Lakhanpur Basohli Road in Thien and Hatt Mashka on the Himachal Jammu Kashmir border will be conducted again. In Thien, only one bid was received, and no one showed interest in the auction for the shop in Hatt in the first round. The department will complete the process again for these shops.

According to information from the excise department, the highest bid for a liquor shop in the district this year was for the shop at Ward 21 in Hatli Mod, which was auctioned for ₹2.60 crore.
