Kathua, 06 February: The scenic Kathua Canal that runs through the heart of Kathua city is set to undergo a significant transformation. The district administration has announced an ambitious plan to develop the canal into a modern waterfront with an investment of 8 crore. Kathua Update This project aims to enhance the ecological and aesthetic appeal of the canal, boost local tourism, and create employment opportunities.
Under this waterfront project, the canal will feature cycling tracks, restaurants, cafes, gardens, and attractive fountains. In addition, the project will include the construction of pedestrian pathways, parking facilities, lighting, and beautification of the gardens along the canal. The primary focus of the project will be from the radio station to Sawan Chak Gurudwara.
Deputy Commissioner Dr. Rakesh Minhas stated that this project would completely transform the appearance of the Kathua Canal and provide a significant boost to local employment. He emphasized that the canal's beautification would not only attract tourists but also provide a new recreational spot for residents.
In the summer season, the Kathua Canal serves as a popular spot for locals and visitors from Punjab and Jammu, offering a refreshing experience akin to a free water park. The new waterfront development is expected to elevate the city's growth and tourism to new heights.
The district administration and relevant departments are committed to completing this project as soon as possible. The revamped Kathua Canal is poised to become a major attraction for both locals and tourists, marking a significant achievement for the city.
