DC Kathua kick starts plantation of fruit plants in border village Kunthal
Kathua, August 16: Deputy Commissioner Kathua Rahul Pandey today kick started a Plantation drive organized by the Horticulture department in border village Kunthal in Hiranagar.

A total of 40 kanals of land mass is being taken up for plantation of citrus fruits in village Kunthal which has been taken up under the CAPEX HD Scheme of Horticulture Department in areas having suitable agro climatic conditions.

The Deputy Commissioner also handed over three tractors, two tillers and one MP Plough under SMAM & Special Mechanization Capex scheme of the Horticulture department. 

Speaking on the occasion, the DC Kathua Rahul Pandey appealed to the farmers of border areas to come forward and avail schemes of Agriculture, Horticulture, Animal Husbandry, Fisheries, Poultry and allied sectors by opting for mix farming to diversify their income. He said to ease out the farming process through technological intervention the government has devised several schemes in Agriculture and Allied sectors where Tractors, Tillers and other farming implements, tools are being given to the farmers at highly subsidized rates.

While giving details of the ongoing plantation drive taken up by Horticulture Department, the Chief Horticulture Officer, Kathua Sushil Kumar Angurana said the department has been motivating farmers to adopt horticulture on commercial scale as there is huge potential for it in border areas of Kathua district. “Over 120 hectares of landmass has been brought under the mango, litchi and citric plantation in the district”, the CHO added.
