DMO Kathua seizes heavy excavator involved in illegal mining at Raavi


KATHUA, Feb 25: To curb earth excavation and prevent further vandalizing Ravi basin, District Mineral Officer Rajinder Singh seized heavy excavator involved in illegal mining during night hours here today.

Reacting to series of complaints lodged by local people of Keedian Gandiyal residing along Ravi river, Deputy Commissioner, Rahul Yadav passed instructions to DMO Kathua to laid crackdown in night hours.
After verification, it was also found that the excavator belonged to Punjab state and carried out mining activities in areas of UT of Jammu and Kashmir. There are massive digging and deep pits in the Keedian Gandiyal due to illegal mining by the miners from Punjab. 

As per the reports of local people, massive excavation has been taken place in the Ravi belts of Kathua district also in the past. The miners were also warned for shunning the illegal mining in the river but despite this warning, mining activities remained continue.

The excavator after seizure was handed over to incharge police post Keedian Gandiyal  for further legal action as per the  rules by the mining department.
