DC Kathua reviews flood protection measures ahead of rainy season

                        
KATHUA, JUNE 07: Deputy Commissioner (DC) Kathua Rahul Yadav today reviewed the flood protection measures in the district ahead of the rainy season, here at a meeting convened in the conference hall of DC office complex.

At the outset, the DC outlined the importance of inter departmental coordination in dealing with any emergency during the ensuing monsoon season. He emphasized on everyone associated with the task of execution of flood protection measures to work in coordination, so that life and property of people especially inhabitants of flood prone areas was safeguarded.

The DC directed to constitute flood protection coordination committees to monitor the flood protection arrangements and function as a crisis management group.

It was decided that control room at Police Control Room Kathua and sub-control room would be established at XEN Flood Control Office to monitor and transmit information regarding the behavior of floods to all stakeholders.

The DC directed the Executive Engineer Flood Control, Division Kathua to formulate a roster of flood duty charts to monitor the behavior of rivers and nallahas and communicate the flood messages to the main control room.

Rahul Yadav called upon the Municipal Bodies and Irrigation department to expedite the desilting and drainage clearing work in their respective jurisdiction, before the onset of rainy season.

For better coordination and timely help, Police Department was asked to depute wireless teams at Panjtirthi-Billawar, Jakhole, Flood control gauge reader hut near national highway Rajbagh, Kerpunnu, Keerain Gandyal, Haria Chack at river Tarnah and Ujh Barrage.

It was decided that in case of evacuation of people during Flood times, school and college buildings in urban areas besides Panchayats Ghars will be utilised to accommodate evacuees.

Pertinently, there are four main rivers namely Ujh, Raavi, Naj,  Bhini and hundreds of  local nallahas where medium to major floods are expected during monsoon season.

ADDC Kathua, Puneet Sharma; ADC, Kathua Atul Gupta; ADC, Billawar, ADC Basohli, ACR, ACD, Chief Medical Officer, Executive Engineers of Irrigation, PWD(R&B), JKPDCL, Jal Shakti and other concerned officers were present in the meeting.
